Epona Will Be A DLC Weapon For Link In Hyrule Warriors

$

epona_hyrule_warriorsThe Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has taken to Miiverse to announce that Epona will be a DLC weapon for Link in Hyrule Warriors. Here’s what Aonuma had to say about the inclusion of Epona via the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U social network, Miiverse.

“Beyond that, additional downloadable content will become available in Hyrule Warriors after the game launches. The first DLC pack, Master Quest Pack, will be released on October 16. The details of that pack will be revealed soon, but today, let me give you a sneak peak at an additional weapon. The new weapon added through the Master Quest Pack is…Epona!”

“Some of you may be surprised to hear that Epona is a “weapon”, but in Hyrule Warriors, she can team up with Link to attack enemies! I already had a chance to try out Epona in the game. By riding Epona, I was able to blow heards of enemies away and gallop swiftly through the fields, and I had a lot of fun trying out this re-imagined version of her in Hyrule Warriors.”

“In the Zelda series, players never had a chance to tackle bosses by galloping around them with Epona like in Hyrule Warriors, so I hope fans will enjoy playing as Zelda characters in a game with a different type of action than you typically find in the original series. In addition to Epona, the DLC will include other content as well, like new scenarios and costumes that will further expand your gaming experience. If you’re interested, please check it out in the Nintendo eShop. I hope these download packs will help deepen and expand your adventures in Hyrule Warriors.”

Thanks to those who sent this in.

The Nintendo Holiday site, which is filled to the brim with items you could receive or give as gifts this Christmas, states that the Link Amiibo figure will be compatible with Mario Kart 8. Sadly, there’s no indication as to whether it will unlock Link as a character if you don’t have the forthcoming downloadable content. Hopefully we shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out how it will all work.

Thanks, Maanwel

In North America, the second best-selling amiibo is Mario, followed by Pikachu, Kirby, Samus, Yoshi, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Peach and Luigi – in that particular order. Link, who was part of the first wave of amiibo, is compatible with a number of games, including Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors.

Miyamoto And Tezuka Ponder Who Should Play Link And Mario Bros In Live Action

Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka have participated in a rather fun interview with MTV. The point of the interview was to ask the talented creators who should play iconic Nintendo characters in fictitious live action movies. They both stressed that they currently have no plans for live action titles featuring the Mario Bros and Link from The Legend of Zelda. Anyway, here’s their interesting answers.

Link:

“It would be very fun and awesome if Link was played by a female actress, a boyish female actress.”

Miyamoto responds: “This is something I never imagined because Link is very different to how a Japanese person looks. At the Japanese Expo I attended there were so many people in cosplay who looked very good. They would be good [actors]!”

He reiterates his desire for an unknown actor, saying: “With Japanese TV drama and film they always use the same actors, so I actually think we should have someone completely new.”

Mario and Luigi:

“One thing we can say about the original film was that Luigi was very young and handsome in the original movie,” says Miyamoto. “But Mario and Luigi are supposed to be twins. So a new cast would definitely have to be twins.”

Live Action:

“Regarding Mario and Link films, Miyamoto stresses that Nintendo does not have anything in the works, but that the company is “definitely interested and open to it.” The interview contains a few other interesting tidbits as well – for instance, Miyamoto reveals that the iconic plumber brothers were originally made as twins with similar sprites to keep within the game’s memory limitations.”

Great Fairy Link Outfit Discovered In Zelda Tri Force Heroes

Pedalpowerluigi and Einstein95 have discovered a Great Fairies outfit for Link in his latest adventure The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes. It looks as though it is the same model as the one found in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds which suggests that it is a prototype. Still, it is certainly an interesting discovery!

Me and einstein95 found a weird outfit resembling Great Fairies from A Link Between Worlds from the files of the game. Looking at Link’s face suggests that this was probably an in-progress model from when ALBW Link was made into the Toon Link artstyle for TFH.

Nintendo On The Making Of Breath Of The Wild Images

A section from the book Hyrule Graphics, which will be published as The Legend of Zelda: Art & Artifacts when it comes to the west, reveals a short Q and A with Takumi Wada, Satoru Takizawa and Eiji Aonuma on the images for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild.

Snippets of the dialogue, translated by Nintendo Everything can be found below:

link_bow.jpg

“Q. This picture of Link from behind is also a composition that we haven’t seen much of before.

Wada: When it comes to each pose, I drew them while discussing with art director [Satoru] Takizawa, but I thought that drawing the back side would show the various equipment that is held on the back and seeing them would make everyone excited.

Q: The shield isn’t the regular one and various things are also hanging on the waist… Also, there isn’t a sword but rather a bow in these two sheets.

Takizawa: The bow is very important item this time around. You can use it from the start, it is also very convenient to use, and it was even used symbolically in the 2014 promotional video. Producer [Eiji] Aonuma has been screaming “I want to endorse the bow” from the initial stages of development (laughs), so we decided easily on the direction of making the bow appealing.

Q: This time the colour of clothing is also different and the familiar hat isn’t worn.

Takizawa: Not having Link’s iconic green clothes and triangular hat in the main illustration was a brave decision. But the concept that Link changes various clothes in this title was decided from the start, so this design first and foremost set about to show symbolically that “it is different every time”. However, there are also various types of swords, bows, shields and other arms, so it was hard to decide which equipment to use for the official illustration.

Q: In other words, you can also catch a glimpse of “revisiting the conventions of Zelda”, which is one development theme of this title, from the illustrations, right?

Takizawa: That’s right.”

You can check out the full translated section from the book here. The Legend of Zelda: Art & Artifacts will be released in English in February 2017.
